2008 WRS Arrangement Workshop
The Wichita Rose Society hosted a hands on floral arrangement workshop on Saturday, August 9, 2008. Dr. Douglas Horbelt and the Associates of Women’s Health graciously donated their office building break room and conference room for the workshop. Our guest speaker, Mr. Douglas Helberg, came to from Omaha, Nebraska to teach this class. He is currently serving as the American Rose Society as National Chairman of Arrangement Judges, and has taught floral arranging for over 25 years at the local, district and national levels.

Elements and Principles of Design were taught, and a hand out was given to each participant. Containers, backgrounds and methods of entering arrangements for a judged show were covered. Digital photographs of award winning designs taken at rose shows across the country by Dr. Douglas and Pat Horbelt were included in the hand out. A catered box lunch from Jason’s Deli was served. After lunch, more discussion and question and answer session followed. Floral materials and red roses were given to each participant along with a container and Oasis Floral foam. Participants were then allowed to create a design they could take home. We had twenty-seven in the class, fourteen of whom are members of the WRS.
We received praise from most of the students for the quality of the information as well as the beautiful accommodations for the event. Tonya Inkelaar and Pat Horbelt organized the event; and many others helped to make it a success! |
