Q. I have a rabbit gnawing on my roses, what can I do to get him to leave the bushes alone without hurting him?
A. Try Liquid Fence for that problem. I get mine from Tractor Supply but ask your favorite nursery if they carry it. I buy the concentrate and use 5 tablespoons per gallon of water. Put the mixture in a hand sprayer and spray the plants after dusk. I recommend a strong mixture the first week (every night), then dilute it and spray about 2 times a week. It works well to keep deer and rabbits from eating the roses. I think it also keeps insects at bay.
Right now we need to watch for pider Mites on the roses. A strong shower of water on the plants every day (early or late in the evening) will knock the Spider Mites off. Spraying with water will also knock aphids off the rose plants.
